When I first added a hard drive to my IIGS and installed System 6, I quickly got bored staring at a periwinkle blue screen. Especially when my friends had interesting and colorful desktops on their Windows 3.1 and Mac System 7 computers! I guess we think alike because back then I used SuperConvert 3, downloaded a bunch of anime pics and tweaked the pictures with Photoshop to get the colors right. I came up with several good ones, but the one that looked the best was a character from Ranma ½. You can catch a sample of that desktop if you look at my YouTube video I posted of Silpheed (ironically a game that also uses the 640 mode).
