Sea Strike was released for the Apple IIGS only by PBI Software in 1987.

With Sea Strike, you got the feeling that PBI Software had the idea that the IIGS was only a colour Macintosh. The game is played entirely with the mouse, and forgive me for saying so lovers of early Mac games, the game play was a little shallow.

The game involved your helicopter and defending three oil tankers that had to cross safely across the screen for you to progress onto the next level. From an overhead view, you control your helicopter with the mouse, the button firing a single shot. The mouse button could be held down for continuous fire. Also at your disposal were immolation charges, 'smart bombs' that would wipe out everything currently on the screen. The game could end two ways, if you lost all your helicopters or if all three oil tankers are destroyed from the approaching enemy onslaught. Kill everything you see.

It's a shallow game, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad game. I think its biggest problem is the lack of replay value, or at least, a simple high score to beat didn't provide enough incentive to continue playing the game over and over again. The graphics are colourful and reasonably well drawn, but they lack any arcade style about them. The shining feature about the game is the sound, with some neat looping orchestral music at the title screen and the alert messages at the beginning of each level. If you love older Apple II games and always wanted to play them with the mouse, Sea Strike is for you.
