This site's sole purpose is to accurately represent every Apple IIgs application so they don't vanish forever while we were all waiting for software companies to reclassify their programs as freeware. This archive contains both 2image and ShrinkIt archives that can be used with both emulators and real IIgs machines alike. If you're unfamilar with the Apple IIgs, it was released on September 1986 as the most powerful Apple II computer. It could run nearly all the existing 8-bit Apple II software that preceded it, but also newer software that took advantage of the IIgs' better graphics and sound capabilities.

The Ring is still growing with box scan and archive submissions. Have a look through what's on the Ring now and see if there's anything missing. If the ring is missing an archive or box scan that you have, please upload those files via FTP. If everyone can chip in, we'll have an archive envious of any other computer platform.

If you're looking for an Apple IIgs emulator: MacOS users: Download Bernie ][ the Rescue, the most fully featured IIGS emulator. XGS is also available for the PowerMac and 68k based Macs, but isn't as compatible or robust as Bernie. MacOS X users: KEGS has been ported to MacOS X and is available from CasaGS. Windows Users: KEGS is the best IIgs emulator available, although it is still in development. XGS is also available for Windows and DOS. BeOS Users: Sweet 16 (based on the core of Bernie) is available for PPC and Intel BeOS. OS/2 Users: XGS is available. For the emulator to work, you need to download the Apple IIgs ROM and include it with your emulator application. I recommend you use this ROM01 image to ensure maximum compatibility (you may need to change the name of the ROM to suit your emulator, which should be described in the docs for each respective emulator). A ROM03 image is also available. The archive consists of 2image disk images, which are the defacto standard for Apple IIGS cross-platform disk images and also original Apple II ShrinkIt! archives. This project is a combined effort between every Apple II user out there. If you can help out with providing missing programs and cover scans I want to hear from you! Email me! The archive will not contain programs that are still commercially available by their original distributor. Links will be provided to where you can still buy those titles. Otherwise, every other title is either reclassified freeware or abandonware. I don't see why the IIgs should miss out on comprehensive archives of commercial software while every other old platform enjoys that luxury. Read the fine print in the disclaimer. Don't forget to check out the Apple IIGS memorabilia!
